Welcome to the Technical Bulletin for July 2024, where we cover the latest updates and developments.
Technical Bulletin July 2024
KOROK has a culture of investing in product testing across our core market segments, believing in developing systems that simplify construction with robust, evidence-based performance.
In the Technical Bulletin for July 2024, we discuss how, as our market evolves, so does the demand for high-performance, compliant systems. KOROK continually strives to stay ahead, providing evidence-based solutions, supporting documentation, technical support, and literature to the New Zealand Construction Industry.
Our technical team, led by David Cornelius, brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the KOROK brand. We balance product innovation, testing, and technical support, ensuring that the industry benefits from practical, test-based solutions in our July 2024 bulletin.
Pathway to testing:
KOROK collaborates with leading institutions such as BRANZ, Auckland University Acoustics Testing Services, CSIRO, and Warringtonfire Australia, alongside industry-leading fire and structural engineers, manufacturers, and consultants. This collaboration aims to deliver performance-based solutions outlined in our July 2024 Technical Bulletin to meet ever-evolving design requirements.
The testing process begins by identifying industry challenges, followed by setting objectives and the steps required to facilitate a solution. KOROK evaluates both suitability and compliance requirements while considering simple installation methodologies. A systematic evaluation of needs leads to a well-structured test program and assessments for the July 2024 period.
In the July 2024 Bulletin, David and his team rigorously assess and refine processes, aiming to provide the market with simple, high-performance systems and applications that enhance both functionality and efficiency. Our goal is to ensure that every product meets the highest standards of performance and reliability outlined in the Technical Bulletin.
Fire rated protection of junctions between KOROK walls and structural steel is an essential consideration in building safety and integrity.
Fire rated protection of junctions between KOROK® walls and structural steel
Ensuring fire-rated protection for junctions between KOROK® wall systems and structural steel columns and beams is critical for maintaining the integrity of fire protection systems in commercial and residential buildings. This is important because structural steel needs proper junction protection with KOROK walls for fire safety.
This guide provides a quick reference for builders, engineers, architects, and designers to assess, design, and install fire-rated junctions without compromising the fire protection applied to steel structures. Whether you’re working with steel columns, beams, or other structural elements, KOROK® wall systems offer reliable fire resistance and acoustic performance. Steel structural elements need specialised junction protection with KOROK walls for fire safety.
Since fire protection linings and coatings are designed to meet the specific requirements of each column, beam, and loading condition, we recommend consulting your structural engineer or fire engineer for precise junction details.

Hoyts Cinema Complex, – KOROK® Wall Systems in Action
The Ormiston Hoyts Cinema Complex is part of a large shopping mall development in South Auckland’s Flat Bush. With eight theatres, the project required effective soundproofing to enhance the cinema experience.
KOROK® Panels for Acoustic Performance
The theatre walls feature a double layer of 78mm KOROK® panels with a gap filled with acoustic batts, designed to prevent sound from travelling between theatres. This setup ensures clear and uninterrupted sound for moviegoers.
KOROK® wall systems are known for their acoustic properties, making them a common choice for cinemas in New Zealand. These panels help manage sound, offer fire protection, and are straightforward to install, meeting both safety and performance needs. For more information about how KOROK® can support your next project, contact us today.
High-Performing and Lightweight Panels for Superior Building Solutions
The 78mm KOROK® panels are engineered to provide exceptional performance in both fire and acoustic applications. These panels are roll-formed from high-quality COLORSTEEL® steel strips, with the steel conforming to the rigorous AS/NZS1397:2001 standard.
The combination of steel shells and an aerated concrete core ensures outstanding durability and functionality. Weighing approximately 10.2kg per lineal metre, these panels offer a lightweight solution that does not compromise on strength or safety.
Applications of 78mm KOROK® Colour Panels
Our 78mm KOROK® colour panels are versatile and suitable for various building applications, including:
KOROK® External Wall Systems: Ensuring robust protection with excellent thermal, acoustic, and fire-rated properties.
Lightweight Construction: Simplifies installation and reduces structural load requirements.
Durability: Engineered to withstand demanding conditions.
Efficiency: Panels are pre-finished and easy to install, reducing construction time and costs.
Transition to COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™
In our commitment to innovation and sustainability, we are transitioning to the advanced COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™, replacing the previous COLORSTEEL® ENDURA® and COLORSTEEL® MAXX® ranges. This transition represents a significant technological advancement, enhancing the performance and longevity of our wall systems. COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™ is designed to offer superior resistance to New Zealand’s diverse environmental conditions, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications.

Lift Shafts, Risers, Ducts – Fire and Acoustic Rated Protection
KOROK® fire and acoustic rated wall systems offer superior solutions for lift shafts, risers, and ducts. Lift shafts require fire and acoustic rated protection to ensure building safety. With our innovative panel design, you can install from one side only, eliminating the need for internal scaffolding and significantly reducing construction time and costs.
Key Advantages:
Single-side installation: No scaffolding required inside the shaft, speeding up the construction process.
Fire and acoustic performance: Our systems provide high-level fire resistance and acoustic insulation, ensuring safety and comfort. For lift shafts, this fire and acoustic rated protection is critical.
